THE VIEW FROM DISCONSOLATE COVE

Crocuses are murderers.
We keep them in an iron pot
with bricks to hold
the lid down.
The daffodils are homeless,
and if their spring pregnancies
are to be seasonably terminated,
details must be observed
such as the ground's uselessness
with reference to the end.

Colin James works for and in Energy Conservation. He recently has poems appearing in Yellow Mama and Blackwidow.
