Stirring : A Literary Collection

Dorothy Doyle Mienko

IT WASN'T UNTIL LATER

I found out I could burst
into the Fourth of July,
that my skin would unfold
like an origami fan.

My mother never said

like a touch-me-not.

I taught myself
to find the small pink star
and love its sparkle.
