THE HOMELESS GARDEN

Not enough to feed the hungry
The squash blossoms trumpet in the fog.
The tomato sets its blush against the stake,
Pulls itself down toward broken soil.
It is a low fence, meant to shame them
Into lines, but the language of the garden
Is shameless, its trees buoyed above the fog,
It says only, come, and enter, and eat your fill.
