A dead
trout
lies on the shore
like a dirty
sock.

Its eye
has vanished,
a hole
where a toe
would go.





S. Thomas Summers is a teacher of English at Wayne Hills High School in Wayne, NJ. His poetry has been published in Rock and Sling, MiPo, 2River View, Verse Libre Quaterly, and The Pedestal Magazine, among other print and electronic journals. Summers is currently seeking a publisher for his manuscript Private Hercules McGee: Poems of the Civil War. He lives with his wife and two children in Northern New Jersey.
