The Usual Forever
I tell them it's time to go.
Put on your coats, I say.
They take the usual forever
to come downstairs, and
an additional forever
to get their feet into shoes.
Do they do it to drive me crazy?
Are they trying to prove they’re in charge?
They just have other things on their minds.
Lego projects, and the organization of mice.
They feel time differently. Their forevers
are over fast. As soon as Christmas ends,
they start waiting for it again.
