FRASER RIVER, DECEMBER
all we create being
part of nature
even this
mustard sky
scarred with strands
of smog intestines
and the factory bellies
bordering the piss-water
river ribbon
(when i went swimming
and caught the itch
it blossomed my thighs
the same shade that rusts the river
now)
now
i ride the train
over the sub-
divisions and the rail-
road tracks;
past the pulp-mill
and the smoke stacks;
somehow
it all looks different
this winter
under breath-clouded glass:
rain-wet concrete
mottled like pigeon
wings
