Steven Fleet

SANCTUARY

It is not until night
among the orange groves

after all outward colors
have receded into stillness

that can there be heard
the occasional sound

of unseen fruit landing
like a breath on the ground

A transplant from the American Orient, Steven Fleet lives in Los Angeles, where he tries to attain his little slice of daily zen by working with his hands. He has a BFA from the University of Arizona and is a member of local literary polymath Terry Wolverton's "Writers at Work" poetry workshop, on whose blog his work has most appeared.
