Community Engagement Director

The Sundress Academy for the Arts (SAFTA) is an entirely volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that hosts residencies and workshops for writers in all genres. They are looking for a creative and dedicated individual to serve as the Community Engagement Director to create partnerships across arts organizations and run Sundress Reading Series events. This position will require approximately 5-10 hours of work per week and will begin June 2025.
The Community Engagement Director will be responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with nonprofit organizations to support efforts in arts events, fundraising, education, and literary citizenship. This role will require the planning, organization, and execution of quarterly events for the reading series. Responsibilities will include collaboration with a SAFTA team, communicating with local nonprofits and networking with new ones, using social media to promote events, hosting virtual and in-person reading events, and more.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Strong written communication skills
- Experience with coordinating and running literary events
- Familiarity with local and regional nonprofits and arts organizations
- Passion for literature and strong literary citizenship
While this is an unpaid position, all directors with SAFTA gain real-world experience working with a nationally recognized press. Applicants should be located in the greater Knoxville area.
