Sundress Publications Announces the Recipient of Microgrant for Palestinian Writers

Sundress Publications is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2023 Microgrant for Palestinian Writers is Mandy Shunnarah. They will receive $500, a slot in Sundress’s reading series, a one-week residency at the Sundress Academy for the Arts in Knoxville, TN, and the potential for publication.

Mandy Shunnarah, (they/them), is an Alabama-born Appalachian and Palestinian-American writer who calls Columbus, Ohio, home. Their essays, poetry, and short stories have been published in The New York Times, Electric Literature, The Rumpus, and others. They are a 2024 recipient of the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award for poetry, and their first book, Midwest Shreds: Skating Through America’s Heartland, will be released in Summer 2024 from Belt Publishing.

Additionally, Mandy has been published in several anthologies, including The Columbus Anthology from Belt Publishing, Through the Aftermath: A Post-Apocalyptic Anthology, The Bad Day Book, and two Chicken Soup for the Soul books. They have received two Best of the Net nominations for their creative nonfiction and a Pushcart Prize nomination for their fiction, as well as having placed in short story contests.
